The 3-Minute Lesson

What’s your deep learning strategy?

Mine is to obsess.Let me break down what I do 👇> Find 2-3 people who are really good at something I want to learn.> Study not just what they do but how they do it. What’s the thinking behind the output?> Collect key points and useful stuff in a doc.> Apply what I’ve learnt. Here’s a real example:I wanted to learn how to write for the attention economy in the digital world.I researched and found 3 people who are killing it:> Justin Welsh> Nicolas Cole 🚢🏴‍☠️ and Dickie Bush 🚢> Ann HandleyTechnically that’s 4, forgive me!I took Justin's course. I purchased books from both Nicolas Cole and Ann Handley. This was the beginning of my 20-ish hour obsession.I immersed myself in the frameworks, tools and tactics they taught.I researched their work through online portfolios and appearances on podcasts.I became the top student in all their teachings.Next, I took all of this and decided what was useful for my context. I put all of this into my own note-taking app of choice (aka my personal learning system). This is a space for me to go back and refresh myself on all the most useful content.👉 The next steps are the most essential - action and application.Knowledge holds no power without action. So, it’s all about taking what you’ve learnt, testing it in the world and tweaking it to what works for you.And that’s just what I did.20 hours sounds a lot, but it’s not in the grand scheme of time.📈 That investment has:1. Improved my writing.2. Broadened my understanding of marketing and copywriting.3. Increased traffic to my blog.4. Increased readers of my newsletter.5. Improved my personal brand awareness for future career opportunities.Plus, I gained an unexpected output by discovering more SMEs to continue my learning journey. When I want to get really good at something, I obsess.Find those who do it well, learn from them, seek the path they sought and make it your own. What’s your approach to learning new stuff?Hit 'reply' and let me know! Till next time, friend.
