The Big Thought

Do you know that the average company offers their employees over 88 different applications to use in their workflow? This is where the problem starts when trying to help workforces make the most of their technology stacks.According to research from the identity management company, Okta, through their 10,000 clients, they discovered that 88 is only the average number of apps available to employees today. Yes, this means there are many more! While that might sound like a good thing as we have many tools to select to complete work. This volume of choice is the exact problem. We’re all drowning in so much digital technology, it’s near impossible to know what is actually useful. The recent explosion of generative AI tools has only added to the noise. You only need to open up your local social media app of choice to discover a post stating "1,000 AI tools you need to know".I always wonder, how many can there actually be? Feels like everyone is just adding the words 'AI' to the product rather than the product having anything to do with AI.

Useful tools for useful tasks

As someone who spends too much time doing too many things, and working in the learning technology field, I collect a lot of data and insight on the most useful tools for tasks. My website hosts the best 20 tools I use in my L&D practice for free. It's never any more than 20 because I don't want to be running another bloated content library of tools which no one wants! In the constant creation of content across social, websites and with other creatives, I've compiled a definitive list of 28 tools that are worth exploring in these pursuits. And last but certainly never least, these 5 tools are very helpful for me and my teams but are mostly (bar one) under the radar to many. That's my take though, what about you? What are your go-to tools and why? Hit 'reply' or drop me a DM at [email protected]. I might feature a bunch in a future edition.Till next time, friend.

Content that has caught my attention and might interest you too.

This one stopped me in my tracks on a recent doom-scrolling adventure across LinkedIn, and I'm glad it did. They say age provides clarity. From this post, it certainly seems to have for Mr Gates. All 5 points are meaningful, yet number one had me cheering the most. As someone who wrote a whole book on an unorthodox approach to careers, I'm glad someone smarter than I is saying the same thing.

Keeping with our tools theme, one which has caught me by surprise and made me say goodbye to Google Chrome is Microsoft Edge.I can't express how insane it is for me to write these words as I have been a hater of MS browsers for nearly 20 years. But, I will always give credit where credit is due and damn MS deserve the credit with Edge. Both the accessibility and integrated AI toolset make it my destination of choice to explore the web. This is just the tip of the good stuff. Technologist, Jonathan Wylie, shares 10 features which could make you see Edge in a different light.

If you're curious, here's three ways I can help you 👇
