Hey there 👋,

Welcome to another Cult of Thoughts exclusive edition.

Once a month, I answer questions and explore topics for paid subscribers, aka The Cult of Thoughts 🏴‍☠️ (not a member? Join the cult today).

Every Cult member gets access to workshops, events, exclusive videos, and of course, the amazing Playbook Library, full of all my best secrets, strategies and frameworks.

Today, I’m sharing part 2 of my 8 part series on "How to launch a successful AI-powered L&D product in your organisation" exclusively for you (The Cult of Thoughts community).

This time we’re breaking down how to align, navigate and manage stakeholders when launching an AI-powered L&D product. We kicked off last month with Part 1: The (Hidden) System Behind Every Successful AI Product Launch.

For the next 6 months we will:

  • Explore a new section of the playbook every month

  • Monthly office hours where we unpack each part of the playbook

  • Live conversations with industry pros who've deployed AI products for L&D

If you’re not a member of the cult, don’t worry. I’ll speak with you in the free edition on Tuesday.

We've got lots to discuss!

The Art of Getting The Right People Bought In for The Right Reasons

No one gets away from managing stakeholders.

Not even AI agents.

Maybe they’ll quit after discovering the perils of aligning expectations and reality across these groups, too.

I’ve always found managing processes and technology easy in my work, but when it comes to managing people, that’s a completely different story. My nearly 20-year career has taught me that the success of many projects and product launches has very little to do with technology and everything to do with people.

For the most part, tech is straightforward.

It either works or it doesn’t. It doesn’t have an agenda. It doesn’t get annoyed when its ego hasn’t been stroked because we didn’t use ‘that idea’ or refuse to just say ‘I don’t know’, when we all know they have no clue what they’re talking about.

Like most human focused experiences, it’s a game of emotions.

That’s it at its most basic level.

As the person (or one of) leading the charge to deploy an AI-powered L&D product, it’s your job to manage people, their emotions and the product. I won’t sugar coat it, it’s not easy.

I found myself, on more than a few occasions in my corporate roles, still awake at 4 am trying to figure out how I’m going to make that one stakeholder see sense in why “doing that thing now” is not going to end well.

Sometimes you get lucky and can choose the stakeholders that are part of your project. Most often, you don’t.

While I know I’ve started this off in a slight negative tone, it’s not my intention.

I just want you to know, that I know, how tough it can be to keep everyone happy on a project.

Enough of my moaning.

Let’s get serious about how you can get the right people bought in for the right reasons to make your product launch a long-term success.

I’m breaking this down into 4 sections:

  1. How to build the internal business case

  2. Identifying who owns what (IT, HR, L&D, Ops, Comms)

  3. Expectation setting: what the AI will and won't do

  4. Keeping the customer/user at the heart of everything (e.g. the people who this solution serves)

Funny bcoz it’s true
